Length: About 3 hours with breaks

Instructor: Brian Remas

Location: Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve

Difficulty: Moderate

Distance: About 6 miles (it’s a flat trail)

For this adventure, we will journey through one of San Diego County's hidden forests at Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. We'll enjoy beautiful meadows, oak shaded flats, and a stream surrounded by sycamores. If that isn't enough, the turn around point is a set of small waterfalls! There are tons of birds (acorn woodpeckers, rare falcons, scrub jays, etc.), deer, and other animal life. This special preserve has over 100 different species of plants and trees, which makes the environment change several times during our journey.

There is a small fee to park at the reserve ($3.00), but 100% of the money goes to the park.

Be sure to bring:
At least one liter of water
Food for snacks
Good hiking or running shoes

Directions:
12020 Black Mountain Rd, San Diego, CA 92129

Exit interstate 15 at Scripps Poway Parkway/Mercy Road. Go west on Mercy Road for 1 mile to a T-intersection with Black Mountain Road. Go straight across Black Mountain Road to enter the preserve, to the west, is your starting point, the eastern staging area for Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve.
