Latin Music & Movement

Fall Semester 2019 - 2020

Wednesdays, October 16, 23 & 30th

(6 session course, 6:30 – 7:30 PM)

Instructor: Melanie Walker

Location: Multi-Purpose Yoga Room

Prerequisite: None

CEU: 0.3 per session; 1.8 per course

In this course, participants will experience the benefits of cardio exercise while learn to move their bodies to the beat and take in a whole-body appreciation for movement and music. Latin music will be predominately used to help push participants through the work out and to create easy to follow work outs that participants can take with them into their home or work out spaces.

As a class we will become familiar with Latin dance rhythms including salsa, bachata, merengue, and regaton, as well as basic dance steps that they can take to the dancefloor. Melanie Walker is currently an Assistant Director in the mental health field. She is a registered Clinical Art Therapist and hold a holistic view on health and happiness.

Melanie first started her interest in Latin dance in college where it was a place to socialize and work on self-confidence. Following the birth of her two beautiful children, it became a way to reengage in health and was the leading force behind significant weight loss and increased overall well- being. Melanie, a certified Zumba instructor, appreciates opportunities to bring that same love for dance and Latin beats to others.

She has been leading dance workouts for staff for the last 4 years as a way to boost team morale and spread a physical and music-based approach to combatting burnout in the field. Melanie looks forward to bringing this same energy to the Campus of Life.
