Join us for an afternoon that brings to life a fascinating period in the world of art, religion and politics that eventually led to the modern art movements of the impressionism, expressionism and cubism in the 19th and 20th centuries. In this lecture, we will discuss The Spanish Golden Age that begun at the end of the 15th century and the main artists of the period: El Greco, Diego Velazquez and the 18th century’s artist Francisco de Goya who brought innovation and modernization to the world of art.
We will explore the historical contexts that enabled science, culture and art to flourish, from the Visigoths to the Moors to the Catholic Reconquista. We will discuss the Jews in Spain, the Protestant Reformation and its impact on the art and the Counter Reformation art including the Baroque style.
We will also discuss other art styles of the period, including Mannerism and the Romantic period. This program is presented with vivid graphic and include numerous examples of paintings, quotes, and historical facts. Guri Stark is an artist, author, lecturer and high-tech professional.
His multi-media lectures on art and music all over the world provide a unique perspective by combining the artists’ personal biographies, art history and world historical events that influenced the artists. His art topics include Picasso, Van Gogh, Chagall, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Leonardo da Vinci and more. Guri has a Bsc. in Mechanical Engineering and an Msc in Computer Science with a focus on bio-medical engineering - both from the Tecnion in Israel. He also holds an MBA from Colorado University in Denver. With his distinctively watercolors, Guri made a name for himself as an artist in the US and beyond where he participated in numerous shows, exhibitions and galleries.
