Saturday / June 11
10:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Instructor: Brian Remas
Prerequisite: None
Location: Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve
This month Brian will be taking us to one of San Diego County's hidden forests at Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. We'll be able to enjoy beautiful meadows, oak shaded flats, and a stream surrounded by sycamores. If that isn't enough, the turnaround point is a set of small waterfalls. Adventurers will learn about what they are seeing, such as the plants and animals, but also what they are not seeing, including facts about the people that called the area home, thousands of years ago. There are many species of birds (acorn woodpeckers, rare falcons, scrub jays, etc.), deer, and other animal life. This special preserve has over 100 different species of plants and trees which makes the environment change several times during our journey. Along the way, participants will explore various hiking skills, health facts, “Leave No Trace” methods, and how to enjoy the outdoors in a safe way.
We will meet at Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve—12020 Black Mountain Rd., San Diego, CA 92129—at 10:30 am and start our gorgeous adventure at 10:45 am.
Please note that there is a small fee to park at the reserve ($3.00). 100% of the money goes to the park.
