Psychotherapy the healing of the mind--has become the first line of choice in addressing emotional issues in modern times. Many of us have visited therapists for assistance in dealing with life difficulties.  But what really goes on in our therapists' minds when they listen and try to help us with regulating our emotions?

In this course, we will learn how psychotherapy evolved starting in the 19th century in France and Vienna and later in this country.  We will see how two schools of thought (Psychoanalysis and Behaviorism) brought to life a third school (Humanistic Psychology).

We will examine the core ideas of the three schools, review therapy cases, and peek into the biographies of the pioneers who shaped this field of practice such as Sigmund and Anna Freud, Adler, Jung, B.F. Skinner, Maslow, and Carl Rogers. Oded Shezifi, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist who also teaches play therapy at UCSD-Extension.  He worked for over a decade in community mental health settings as a clinician and a supervisor and taught interns the History of Psychotherapy. Currently, Oded works with clients in his private practice in Del Mar.
