Mat Pilates is a low-impact fitness class designed to strengthen the body’s “powerhouse,” a Pilates term that refers to your abdominals, lower back muscles, pelvic floor, hips, and glutes.
Through a series of floor exercises, the practice helps build, sculpt, and tone these muscles, giving your body a long, lean look. Perhaps more importantly, a regular Pilates practice can help to improve your posture, reduce back pain, improve balance, help with digestion, and build overall strength. Beginners are welcome! This class is designed for all levels of fitness as gentle modifications are included.
Beth Hogan, a certified yoga, Pilates, and plant-base nutrition instructor, is an experienced educator and teacher. After years of working out and experiencing the life-changing benefits of a regular fitness regimen, Beth left her job in corporate training to pursue a career in teaching group fitness classes. Beth received her yoga teacher training certification through Shafa Yoga in 2012 and was also certified as a Group Fitness Instructor through the American Council on Exercise. She has taken advanced training in trauma-sensitive yoga, teaching yoga and meditation to military personnel, fitness for seniors, and teaching fitness to people who struggle with weight issues. Beth earned her mat Pilates certification through Spencer Pilates in 2014.
She believes that controlled movement of the body, as first described by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s, provides everyone with a structure for building strength. She especially enjoys working with people who are new to fitness. Beth also holds a certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies at Cornell University and believes that food can prevent and reverse disease. Beth teaches both group and private yoga and mat Pilates classes throughout San Diego.
