Hike Adventures: A Strenuous Hike - Missions Trails North & South Fortuna Mountains

  • To Be Determined San Diego, CA United States (map)

Length: 5 Hike Course (Once a Month, 4 Hours Per Hike)

Instructor: Brian Remas

Session 3 Location: Missions Trails North & South Fortuna Mountains

Difficulty: Strenuous

Distance: 7 miles

Elevation gain: 1,617 feet

We will be hiking in Mission Trails Regional Park, but I'm starting our trek on a lightly traveled, residential side. The hike will meander over rolling hills for a couple of miles and then the climb begins to the top of South Fortuna Mt. and then to North Fortuna Mt. This is a strenuous hike because we will be climbing two mountains, but it is well worth it! Mission Trails Regional Park is an adventurer's paradise with over 42 miles of trails throughout. With the rains that we just had, the desert grounds will seem to come to life with green plants. Once on top of each of the mountains, you'll be able to see the ocean to the west, Mexico to the south, Desert Mountains to the east, and forest mountains to the north.

Be sure to bring:

  • Snacks

  • Hiking Shoes or Boots (more traction then street running shoes)

  • Light jacket (It will be windy on top of the mountains)

  • Hat (there's no shade), Sunglasses, and Sunscreen

  • Backpack (To carry WATER, snacks, and a light jacket)

Distance: 7 miles
Time: 4 hours
Difficulty: Strenuous
Elevation gain: 1,617 feet

We don’t have an exact address therefore please put into your GPS device "Calle de Vida & Colinda Dorada Drive” and follow the written directions. I would look on the computer for directions on google maps BERORE  you leave just in case.

Exit I-15 at Tierrasanta Boulevard. Drive 2 miles east (nearly to Tierrasanta Blvd's dead end), and turn left on Colina Dorada. Drive 1 mile north to the intersection of Colina Dorada Drive and Calle de Vida, where parking is available. If you are using Google Maps, enter "Colina Dorada Drive and Calle de Vida, San Diego, CA" to get you into the general location. Meet us at the yellow gate.
