Hiking: Los Penasquitos Canyon

CEU: About 1.08 per session and 5.4 per course

This is one of San Diego County's hidden forests at Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. You'll be able to enjoy beautiful meadows, oak-shaded flats, and a stream surrounded by sycamores. If that isn't enough, the turnaround point is a set of small waterfalls. There are many species of birds (acorn woodpeckers, rare falcons, scrub jays, etc.), deer, and other animal life. This special preserve has over 100 different species of plants and trees which makes the environment change several times during our journey.

Fee: There is a small fee to park at the reserve ($3.00), but 100% of the money goes to the park.

Be sure to bring: At least one liter of WATER Food for snacks Good hiking or athletic shoes

Distance: About 6 miles Time: About 3 hours (with breaks)

Difficulty: Moderate

Meeting Time: 9:00 AM (The group will be leaving at 9:15 AM)

Directions: Exit Interstate 15 at Scripps Poway Parkway/Mercy Road. Go west on Mercy Road for 1 mile to a T-intersection with Black Mountain Road. Straight across, to the west, is your starting point, the eastern staging area for Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve.
